Supporting Documents

Before an application can be processed, the Student Enrollment department requires specific documents.

Official Transcripts
An official transcript is one that is sent directly from the issuing institution to Newport University. It must bear the official seal and/or signature of the issuing institution (or have been produced on the institution’s secured paper). Transcripts are deemed official if they are in a sealed envelope that remains free from tampering.

Resume
A resumé or curriculum vitae (CV) is a document containing a summary of relevant job experience and education, describing at least the past five years of employment history and significant community, professional or extracurricular activities. It can include recognitions of achievement such as licenses, publications or awards.

Letter of Intent
A Letter of Intent should discuss the student’s past and present academic and work experience and how it relates to career goals and the specific degree program that he or she is interested in at the university. The letter should be clear about how the intended program of study will further the student’s academic or professional goals. The Letter of Intent should be no more than two pages long.

Language Requirements
All courses are taught in English. To succeed, students must have a sufficiently strong knowledge of English. If English is not a student’s first language, the University requires proof that students will be able to understand and learn while enrolled in a degree program.

The tests listed below measure the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university settings. They measure English language proficiency in reading, listening and writing. In areas where access to computer-based testing is limited, students may take paper-based versions of the tests.

English Proficiency Tests and Required Results

  • TOEFL required score: 575 paper-based, 233 computer based or 90-91 Internet-based
  • International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) required score: 6.5 overall with no score less than 6.0
