About Us

Newport University Foundation Year is a post-secondary academic department of Newport University (NU) offering programs by Distance Education for students who are not able to admit directly in their desired program due to insufficient proficiency in English-language.

After successful completion of selected level of courses, the students can continue their study at undergraduate/graduate/doctorate degree program in the NU, or transfer credits to other partner Universities.

Achieve excellence in study program offered by the Foundation Year department that provide high quality education in the field of arts, science and business in a cooperative and creative environment under the guidance of qualified faculty members.

Mission

The Foundation Year department aims to improve student English language proficiency, learning and communication skills, and provide them with the foundation knowledge necessary for their academic success in their educational fields.

Goal

To equip the students with academic skills and basic knowledge that will prepare them for their educational and career life.

Objectives

• To deepen the students’ required general and core education, and computer skills through the medium of English.
• To enhance English language proficiency with emphasis on integrating the four English skills for effective studies in desired study program.
• To improve communication skills that will enable students to interact in real life situations.
• To develop communication and learning skills needed for academic and independent learning.
• To develop the principles of discipline, commitment and sense of responsibility.
• To promote students’ leadership quality, teamwork, critical thinking and self-confidence.
